Apple lists iPhone models excluded from iOS 27 and stops firmware signing for older devices

Apple confirmed that iOS 27 will be available for roughly 31 iPhone models, covering the entire iPhone 17 line and the iPhone 16, 15, 14, 13, 12 families, as well as iPhone 11 and the second‑generation iPhone SE onward. Models such as the iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, the original iPhone SE and all earlier generations will not receive the new operating system and will only get limited security updates. Advanced AI features, including Apple Intelligence, will be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro series and all iPhone 16 and newer devices.

Separately, Apple announced it has stopped signing firmware for several legacy devices: the iPhone 5c, the fourth‑generation iPad and the first‑generation iPad Air. Without signed firmware, users of these devices cannot perform an official clean‑install or restore the device if it becomes corrupted or enters recovery mode, effectively ending official restoration support for this small segment of the ecosystem.
