Apple macOS 27 Golden Gate release introduces Siri AI and ends Intel support

Apple has released macOS 27 Golden Gate, a major update that transitions the operating system exclusively to Apple Silicon, ending support for Intel-based Macs. The update introduces significant features, including the new Siri AI and the Apple Intelligence suite, which provides conversational capabilities and enhanced image editing tools.

However, the rollout has faced several challenges. Users have reported that Apple Intelligence consumes significantly more storage space than officially stated. While Apple specifies requirements of up to 14 GB for M3 chips or later, real-world reports indicate consumption ranging from 20 GB to over 30 GB. Because Apple has removed the option to disable these AI features, users cannot reclaim this space.

Technical issues have also emerged, including reports of bugs in Mission Control, menu bar responsiveness, and Spotlight display errors. Additionally, the update marks the removal of several legacy features such as Boot Camp, the Apple Filing Protocol (AFP), and Time Capsule support. On the hardware side, the release coincides with a shift in memory standards, as Apple moves toward higher baseline configurations to support AI workloads.
