Apple reaches $5 trillion market capitalization

Apple has become the second company in history to close a trading session with a market valuation exceeding $5 trillion, joining Nvidia in this elite group. On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Apple shares rose 0.5% to a record closing price of $342.96, bringing its total market capitalization to approximately $5.005 trillion.

This milestone follows a period of leadership transition, as John Ternus recently succeeded Tim Cook as CEO. During Cook's 15-year tenure, which ended in August, Apple's market value grew more than 13-fold. The company's growth was driven by significant increases in iPhone sales and the expansion of its services division, which grew from $10 billion to over $100 billion in annual revenue.

Despite a broader market downturn where the Nasdaq fell 1.88%, Apple's performance was viewed by analysts as a sign of investor confidence. While many megacap technology peers have engaged in massive capital expenditures to build artificial intelligence infrastructure, Apple has maintained a less aggressive spending strategy, focusing on high-margin devices and services.
