Apple delays Siri AI rollout in Europe amid regulatory disputes
Apple is facing a significant delay in the rollout of its AI-powered Siri assistant across the European Union, specifically for iPhone and iPad users. While the service is currently available on Mac and Vision Pro within the EU, mobile users remain locked out due to ongoing regulatory disputes regarding the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman reports that the delay could last at least five months in a best-case scenario, though it may extend much longer. Reports suggest Apple may be using this delay as a strategic negotiation lever to pressure the European Commission into revising its regulatory approach. By withholding the feature, Apple aims to foster user frustration that might eventually influence EU policymakers.
Technically, the rollout is also complicated by storage requirements. While Apple states that Apple Intelligence requires up to 14 GB of storage on Mac computers, independent field tests have indicated that the system may actually occupy between 20 GB and 30 GB on certain configurations. Additionally, new software updates on macOS 27 have made the download of these AI models automatic upon internet connection, removing previous options to block the installation.
