Apple Music and Spotify to implement AI content transparency labels

Major music streaming platforms are implementing new transparency measures to identify content created with generative artificial intelligence. Apple Music plans to introduce a “Made With AI” label by the end of 2026 for tracks where a substantial portion of the content is AI-generated. This initiative builds upon the “AI Transparency Tags” system introduced earlier in 2026, shifting from a voluntary disclosure model to a more formal requirement for labels and distributors to report AI usage in composition, production, or visuals.

Spotify is also taking action with its “AI Persona” label, expected to roll out in mid-September. This tag will identify profiles where the artist's public identity is entirely artificial rather than a real person. Spotify intends to exclude such photorealistic AI-generated content from its algorithmic and editorial recommendations to maintain platform integrity.

Industry leaders are responding to the rise of synthetic content, which has raised concerns regarding copyright and fair compensation. While AI-generated tracks account for a small fraction of total streams—estimated at less than 0.5%—the volume of uploads is significant. Apple Music vice president Oliver Schusser noted that over one-third of songs uploaded to the service are 100% AI-generated, though they represent a minimal share of total listening time.
