Apple iPhone Duo faces supply shortages following global pre-order launch

Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, is facing significant supply chain challenges following its global pre-order launch on October 16. Despite Apple describing the demand as ‘extraordinary’, the company has faced criticism for opening pre-orders in over 70 countries simultaneously while facing known manufacturing difficulties.

Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman characterized the launch as a ‘major mistake’, noting that Apple appeared to prioritize an early market entry in the first fiscal quarter over meeting consumer demand. Consequently, delivery estimates for many customers in major markets, including the US and Europe, have slipped from late 2026 into late January 2027.

The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch internal Super Retina XDR OLED display and a 5.4-inch external display, powered by the A20 Pro chip. It includes a 4,883 mAh battery and starts at $1,999 in the US. While the device uses a Samsung Display panel, Apple has implemented specific design features, such as a nano-texture finish, to minimize the visibility of the screen crease.

In some regions, such as South Korea, the device is priced significantly higher, starting at 3.29 million won. Despite the high price and long wait times, initial demand remains high, leading to rapid stock depletion within minutes of pre-orders opening.
