Apple, Orange and Banana Nutrition Benefits Highlighted in New Study
A recent analysis of fruit nutrition found that the colour of an apple correlates with its health properties. Red varieties such as Red Delicious, Fuji and Pink Lady contain higher levels of anthocyanin antioxidants and tend to be sweeter, while green apples like Granny Smith have lower sugar, more fibre and higher polyphenol content. Yellow apples, exemplified by Golden Delicious, offer moderate sweetness along with vitamin C and carotenoids.
The same review compared oranges and bananas, concluding that both fruits support cardiovascular health. Bananas provide about 10 % of the daily potassium requirement, fibre and polyphenols that can lower blood pressure and improve cholesterol levels. Oranges supply roughly three grams of fibre per serving and are rich in vitamin C and the flavonoid hesperidin, which may aid blood‑vessel function and reduce inflammation. Nutrition experts advise incorporating all three fruits into a balanced diet for maximum benefit.
