Tenzing biopic reframes Everest ascent from Sherpa perspective

Tenzing biopic Mount Everest Tenzing Norgay Apple Original Films Sherpa history

Apple TV has released the trailer for ‘Tenzing’, a new biographical drama directed by Jennifer Peedom. The film focuses on the life of Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay and his historic 1953 ascent of Mount Everest alongside Edmund Hillary.

Unlike traditional Western-centric narratives of the expedition, the film centers on Norgay’s perspective, exploring his identity, spiritual connection to the mountain (Chomolungma), and the obstacles he faced. The cast includes Genden Phuntsok as Norgay, Tom Hiddleston as Hillary, and Willem Dafoe as Colonel John Hunt.

Following a world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, the movie was showcased at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). It is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 9, 2026, and will arrive on Apple TV on October 16, 2026.
