Apple Photos receives major updates in iOS 27

The iOS 27 update introduces significant enhancements to the Apple Photos application, focusing on advanced media management and artificial intelligence tools.

Key updates to the slideshow feature allow users to create highly customizable presentations by selecting specific photos and videos, adjusting transition styles, controlling slide duration, and adding music. These slideshows can be set to loop automatically and saved as video files.

Shared albums via iCloud have also been upgraded to support content sharing in full, original resolution. The feature now allows for emoji reactions and improved permission management for participants. Notably, users on Android and Windows devices can now contribute photos and videos to these shared albums, increasing cross-platform accessibility.

On the editing front, the 'Clean Up' tool, originally introduced in iOS 18, has been refined with improved AI accuracy. Users can now choose between 'Fast' and 'High Quality' modes to remove unwanted objects or people from images. The update also includes improved sorting and editing capabilities powered by artificial intelligence.
