Apple unveils iPhone 18 Pro, foldable Ultra and staggered release schedule
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in September 2026, featuring a larger 5,500 mAh battery in the Chinese market, new color options (Dark Cherry, Light Blue, Silver, Dark Gray), a 35 % smaller Dynamic Island, LTPO+ display technology and a next‑generation A20 Pro chip built on a 2 nm process that promises about 15 % more performance and up to 30 % better power efficiency. The A20 Pro will use wafer‑level multi‑chip module (WMCM) packaging and may support a variable‑aperture main camera. Prices could rise by up to $200.
For the first time, Apple may separate its iPhone 18 launch into two events: the premium Pro models (and a rumored first foldable iPhone Ultra) in September 2026, followed by the standard iPhone 18 and a lower‑cost iPhone 18e in spring 2027. The iPhone Ultra foldable is rumored to have a 7.8‑inch inner display, a liquid‑metal hinge, a 6,000 mAh battery, and the same A20 Pro processor, targeting multitasking and gaming.
Looking further ahead, a 20th‑anniversary iPhone slated for 2027 could bring a fully glass back, curved edges and under‑display Face ID, continuing Apple’s design evolution.
