Apple plans touchscreen MacBook Ultra with M5 chips and Mac Studio M5/M7 upgrades

Apple is preparing to launch its first touchscreen MacBook, dubbed the MacBook Ultra, with OLED panels, Dynamic Island integration and 14‑inch and 16‑inch sizes. The device will use the current M5 Pro and M5 Max Apple Silicon processors and is slated for release in the late‑2026 to early‑2027 window, positioning it as a premium workstation above the existing MacBook Pro line.

Apple will bypass the next‑generation M6 Pro and M6 Max chips for this model, instead moving directly to the forthcoming M7 series for later revisions. In parallel, the Mac Studio desktop line will receive an M5 Ultra‑based update before the end of the year, followed by a major refresh with an M7 Ultra processor in 2028. The 2028 version is expected to feature a redesigned heat‑sink to manage the higher power draw of AI‑intensive workloads. These hardware plans signal a shift toward stronger on‑device AI capabilities across Apple’s high‑end product range.
