Apple CEO Tim Cook announces donations for Southern Europe wildfires and Japan earthquake
Apple chief executive Tim Cook used his X account on July 30, 2026 to say the company will donate to on‑the‑ground relief efforts after the massive wildfires sweeping southern Europe and the Kumamoto earthquake in Japan. The wildfires have devastated parts of France, Spain, Greece and Portugal, forcing more than 300,000 people to evacuate and burning hundreds of thousands of hectares. The Kumamoto quake measured 7.1 magnitude, killed at least 34 people and left thousands homeless in the prefecture. Apple did not disclose the size of either contribution. Cook also referenced Apple’s internal Employee Giving programme, which has raised over $880 million through matching employee donations. In Europe, the EU Joint Research Centre reported that 434,976 hectares have burned so far in 2026 and Apple’s contribution is being channeled to local aid groups, including the Red Cross.
