Apple delays entry‑level iPad 12 launch to early 2027

Apple has pushed back the release of its 12th‑generation entry‑level iPad, now expected no earlier than the first quarter of 2027. The postponement is linked to the rollout of Apple Intelligence, the company’s new AI platform, which requires more powerful hardware than the current model provides.

Analysts, including Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, note that the tablet will likely switch from the previously anticipated A18 processor to the newer A19 chip—also used in the iPhone 17—to meet the AI workload. Both the A18 and A19 support 8 GB of RAM, a step up from the existing A16‑based iPad’s 6 GB, addressing the industry‑wide shortage of RAM and chips that has further slowed development.

The redesign keeps the familiar 11‑inch Liquid Retina display, aluminum chassis and Touch ID, while adding 128 GB base storage and an N1 modem enabling Wi‑Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Pricing has not been disclosed, but the model is expected to retain its position as Apple’s affordable tablet for education, entertainment and everyday use.
