Linus Torvalds uses AI to resolve Intel Xe driver bug
Linus Torvalds utilized artificial intelligence to identify a long-standing bug within the Intel Xe graphics driver in the Linux kernel. The error, which had remained undetected for nearly two years, was traced to a simple rounding discrepancy where a roundup() call should have been a rounddown().
Torvalds employed AI as a debugging assistant to handle repetitive tasks, such as generating diagnostic tools, reading outputs, and narrowing down hypotheses through multiple system reboots and code modifications. While the AI occasionally suggested the issue might be unsolvable, Torvalds used its generated diagnostic code to eventually isolate the fault.
