Apple prioritizes iOS 27 updates for iPhone users
Apple has begun actively encouraging iPhone users currently running iOS 26 to upgrade to iOS 27. This shift is evident in the device settings menu, where iOS 27.0.1 is now presented as the primary update option. Previously, users on iOS 26 saw the iOS 26.7.1 security update as the main recommendation, with iOS 27 listed under an ‘Also Available’ section.
By repositioning the software update menu, Apple aims to increase adoption of its latest operating system, which was released on September 14, 2026. iOS 27 offers performance improvements, bug fixes, and new features such as Siri AI, though certain AI capabilities may be restricted in specific regions like the European Union.
While the company is prioritizing the newer OS, the upgrade is not mandatory. Users can still manually select iOS 26.7.1 if they prefer to remain on the previous version, which continues to receive critical security patches. Apple has not yet released official data regarding the total number of devices that have migrated to iOS 27.
