Apple quality concerns persist in Polish retail markets

The quality of apples available in retail stores remains a recurring issue for both consumers and producers. While fruit may appear high-quality in orchards, the produce reaching supermarket shelves often suffers from damage or discoloration, leading to consumer dissatisfaction.

Witold Boguta, president of the National Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producer Groups, notes that the problem is complex. He suggests that price pressures and the responsibilities of the retail sector play significant roles in why low-quality or ‘industrial-grade’ apples are sometimes sold at premium dessert-apple prices. This issue affects the overall perception of Polish apple quality within the market.
