Apple raises MacBook Neo prices, adds refurbished models at pre‑increase rates
Apple increased the price of its entry‑level MacBook Neo three months after launch, moving the 256 GB base model from $599 to $699 and the 512 GB version from $699 to $799. In the United States the new 256 GB model now sells for $699, while the 512 GB Touch ID model is $799. To soften the impact, Apple placed certified refurbished Neo units in its online store. The refurbished 256 GB model is priced at $599 and the 512 GB model at $679 – essentially the same as the laptop’s pre‑hike prices. Refurbished devices undergo full functional testing, receive genuine Apple parts, include accessories, and come with a one‑year limited warranty.
The price rise also affected European markets; in Italy the Neo’s launch price of €19 990 rose to €22 990, and in Spain the €649 launch price climbed to €799. Analysts note that the increase narrows the price gap with the higher‑spec MacBook Air M4, threatening the Neo’s role as the cheapest Mac. Some retailers, such as Amazon, still list new Neo units at lower prices before the hike takes effect, offering a brief alternative for buyers. Apple’s broader product‑line price adjustments were announced alongside the Neo change, but the refurbished offering is limited to regions where Apple sells such units (e.g., United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan) and is not currently available in Turkey.
