Apple prepares launch of first foldable iPhone Duo

Apple is preparing for the launch of the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone, with preorders scheduled to begin on October 16 and official sales starting October 23. The device features a 7.6-inch inner display, a 5.4-inch outer display, an A20 Pro chip, and a titanium frame. Notably, the phone will rely exclusively on eSIM technology, omitting a physical SIM slot, and will utilize Touch ID instead of Face ID to maintain a slim 5.2mm profile.

To manage heat within the complex hinge structure, Apple has integrated a flexible graphite pipe to distribute thermal energy across both sides of the device. Retail preparations are extensive; Apple plans to deploy significant display units in major stores, such as the Fifth Avenue location in New York, to allow customers to experience the folding mechanism and StandBy mode.

While anticipation is high, the device has faced criticism. Nothing CEO Carl Pei described the $1,999 starting price as a “waste of money,” citing the lack of Face ID and telephoto lenses compared to the iPhone 18 Pro. Additionally, some users have expressed concerns regarding the matte nano-texture screen and the device's weight, which is approximately 252 grams.
