Apple refreshes iPhone privacy tools Safety Check and App Privacy Report in iOS 27

Apple has highlighted its Safety Check feature in the iOS 27 release. Safety Check aggregates every person, app and device that can access location, photos, calendar, notes, and other data on an iPhone. Users can revoke permissions individually or press an Emergency Reset button that instantly stops all sharing, removes app access to camera, microphone, contacts, location and guides the user to change their Apple‑account password. The tool was developed with organisations that support victims of intimate‑partner violence, enabling a rapid break from a potentially abusive partner’s access to phone data.

iOS 27 also draws attention to the App Privacy Report, a setting that logs each time an app uses the camera, microphone or location over the past seven days. The report, hidden by default since iOS 15, shows timestamps, the domains contacted by apps, and a summary of the most‑contacted tracking services. It can be enabled in Settings → Privacy & Security and stores the data locally on the device. Both features require iOS 16 or later and two‑factor authentication on the Apple account.
