Apple releases iOS 27 beta 5 with Siri AI and design updates

Apple has released the fifth developer beta of iOS 27, signaling the final testing phase before its expected public launch in September. The update introduces significant visual and functional changes, most notably the Liquid Glass design language, which features updated app icons for Safari, Siri, and the App Store, along with adjustable interface transparency.

A major focus of this release is Siri AI, powered by Apple Intelligence. The update includes a dedicated Siri app and enhanced voice customization options for American and British English, though these advanced neural speech features are reportedly limited to high-end hardware like the iPhone 17 Pro and M3-based Macs due to high memory requirements.

Code discovered within the beta also suggests two major developments: the introduction of an ‘Apple Reference Image’ system to verify photo authenticity via Private Cloud Compute, and a potential roadmap for the iPhone 18 lineup. The latter includes six distinct models, such as an ‘iPhone Ultra’ and ‘iPhone Air 2’, with a possible split launch strategy between late 2026 and spring 2027. Additionally, the beta includes an urgent iOS 26.6.1 security patch to address vulnerabilities potentially exploitable by AI-driven attacks.
