Apple releases iOS 27.2 beta with Siri AI updates and Safari telemetry
Apple has released the third developer beta for iOS 27.2, iPadOS 27.2, and several other operating systems, including macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS. Key updates include an expanded Siri AI with support for new languages such as Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese. The Health app has also been redesigned with new 'Insights' and 'Longevity' tabs to provide deeper health data analysis.
In the Apple TV app, new user profiles have been introduced to allow personalized viewing experiences and content recommendations. Additionally, code discovered in macOS 27.2 suggests Apple is preparing for touch-enabled hardware, potentially a new MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen.
Separately, Apple is testing a new telemetry feature in Safari that can detect and record when Google promotes the Chrome browser or Google app on its search pages. This testing includes injecting JavaScript to identify promotional banners and tracking user interactions, such as clicks or dismissals. Analysts suggest this data may serve as defensive evidence for Apple in ongoing antitrust investigations in the UK and EU regarding browser competition and default search engine agreements.
Finally, preparations for the upcoming iPhone Duo are underway. Developers can now submit apps optimized for the foldable device via Xcode 27.1, and the device is expected to launch in late October.
