Apple releases macOS 27 Golden Gate with Apple Intelligence
Apple has released macOS 27 Golden Gate, a major update that transitions the operating system exclusively to Apple Silicon, ending support for Intel-based Macs and the Boot Camp feature. The update introduces Apple Intelligence and a redesigned Siri AI, which are integrated into various applications including Photos, Safari, and Finder. New features include spatial reframing in Photos, automatic tab grouping in Safari, and natural language commands for creating Shortcuts.
While the update brings significant advancements, users have reported several issues. Some report performance delays in Mission Control, and others have noted that Apple Intelligence models can consume between 20GB and 30GB of storage automatically. Additionally, Wacom released a driver update (v6.4.14-2) to fix a bug where users could not drag windows using tablet devices on the new OS.
The update also marks the end of several legacy technologies, including the Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) and support for Time Capsule backups. Apple has also introduced enhanced parental controls and communication safety features across its ecosystem.
