Apple expands smart home ecosystem and software features

Apple is expanding its smart home and software ecosystems through upcoming updates and hardware. Beta versions of iOS 27.2 and macOS Golden Gate 27.2 reveal significant changes, including a redesigned Health app with new 'Insights' and 'Longevity' tabs, and expanded Siri AI language support for Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese, and French.

Code analysis within macOS Golden Gate suggests Apple is testing touch-gesture support for Mac hardware, with new recognition tools appearing in Safari, Photos, and Notes. Additionally, Apple is reportedly preparing a four-speaker HomePod surround sound system that integrates deeply with HomeKit and Apple TV.

In the smart home sector, Apple is expected to unveil a new smart home hub (codenamed J490) featuring a 6-inch display. This push includes partnerships with LG and Schneider Electric to support Matter-enabled devices, such as smart thermostats, locks, and security cameras, aiming to compete more directly in the home automation market.
