Apple releases Safari Technology Preview 249 with new web and accessibility features
Apple announced the Safari Technology Preview 249 update on July 30, 2024. The preview, part of Apple’s experimental browser program that began in 2016, is available for macOS Golden Gate and macOS Tahoe and can be installed via the System Settings software‑update channel. The release adds a range of enhancements, including new accessibility support, expanded CSS capabilities such as the attr() function and outline‑offset: inset, additional Web API and WebAssembly features, and a suite of animation fixes. It also introduces updates to WebKit components like Web Audio, WebRTC, and the Web Inspector, alongside numerous bug resolutions across HTML, JavaScript, and media rendering.
Although aimed primarily at developers, the preview can be downloaded and used by any macOS user without a developer account, allowing Apple to gather broader feedback before the features reach the stable Safari browser.
