Apple rolls out AI‑enhanced Photos features in iOS 27
Apple announced a suite of new capabilities for its Photos app in the upcoming iOS 27 release. Users will be able to build custom slideshows with selectable transitions, durations and music, save the results directly as video files, add emoji reactions in shared albums, and benefit from higher‑resolution media access, richer activity streams and new collections such as “Captured by Me” and “Identity Documents.” Additional tools improve search for people and pets and allow extraction of still images from videos.
The update also introduces “Spatial Reframing,” an AI‑driven editing function that lets users change a photo’s perspective after it has been taken. The feature blends on‑device spatial models with generative AI in Apple’s Private Cloud Compute to fill in missing areas, and is offered free with iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate, subject to daily quota limits and requiring recent Apple Silicon hardware.
