Apple rolls out urgent security update amid rising AI‑powered cyber threats

Apple released an emergency software update for iOS, iPadOS and macOS devices to patch critical vulnerabilities exploited by AI‑enhanced cyber‑attacks. The update addresses flaws in the kernel, WebKit browser engine and WebRTC communication framework, reducing the window of exposure that can arise when attackers use generative AI to locate and exploit software bugs.

At the same time, a recent report highlights a surge in digital scams targeting seniors, many of which now employ artificial‑intelligence tools such as voice‑cloning. The report notes that 82% of people aged 60 and over in São Paulo have faced attempted fraud, and lawyer Mário Henrique Martins warned that “criminals are using increasingly sophisticated resources to deceive victims, exploiting trust, fear and urgency.” The advisory lists common scams—including fake bank calls, AI‑generated voice impersonations, bogus data‑update requests and cloned WhatsApp accounts—and recommends two‑factor authentication and direct verification with institutions to protect older users.
