Apple tests Siri-powered writing toolbar in macOS Mail beta

Apple is experimenting with a new AI‑focused formatting bar for the Mail app in the macOS 27 (Golden Gate) developer beta. The hidden interface adds a “Write with Siri” button that brings up a prompt field for natural‑language requests, while temporarily hiding traditional formatting tools. Selected text triggers four AI assistants – Edit with Siri, Proofread, Rewrite (with style options) and a stylistic analysis tool – that generate drafts, corrections or rewrites. Context‑aware reply suggestions can be previewed before insertion. The feature is not publicly enabled; testers must activate it via a feature‑flag and command‑line commands, and access may be limited to certain languages and regions. Apple’s move reflects its broader push to embed AI functions directly into core macOS workflows.
