Apple to enable iPhone‑Windows copy‑paste feature in EU

Apple announced that it is developing a wireless clipboard‑sharing function that will let users copy text, links or images on an iPhone and paste them directly into a Windows PC, and vice‑versa. The feature is intended to work in the background without the need for separate apps, using a one‑time permission model and Apple’s AccessorySetupKit.

The project was launched after Microsoft submitted an interoperability request under the European Union’s Digital Markets Act. Apple began evaluating the request in March and presented a formal project plan on 26 June. A developer beta is expected in the fall of 2027, with a stable release anticipated in early 2028. Because the DMA obliges Apple to make the change, the rollout will initially be limited to devices sold in the European Union.

If completed as planned, the new clipboard will complement Apple’s existing Universal Clipboard that works only between iOS and macOS devices, removing a long‑standing inconvenience for iPhone users who also run Windows computers.
