Apple to Introduce OLED Displays Covering 95% of BT.2020 Gamut in Macs and iPads

Apple is preparing to adopt OLED panels that can achieve 95% coverage of the BT.2020 color gamut across its upcoming MacBook Pro, iPad Pro and iMac product lines. After introducing OLED displays in the iPad Pro in 2024, the company plans to extend the technology to MacBook Pro models between 2026 and early 2027, according to a TrendForce report.

The shift to BT.2020‑level color fidelity requires new emissive materials such as multi‑resonant TADF, hyperfluorescence and phosphorescence‑assisted TADF, moving the display industry beyond traditional metrics of brightness and contrast. Panel makers, including Samsung Display and Chinese manufacturers, are redesigning pixel chemistry to meet the stricter spectral, efficiency and power‑consumption standards demanded by BT.2020.
