Apple to launch Apple Intelligence in China this December
Apple is preparing to launch its Apple Intelligence platform in mainland China this December, following a two-year regulatory delay. The rollout is expected to arrive via the iOS 27.3 update and will include features such as real-time translation, writing tools, and photo cleaning tools.
To comply with local regulations, Apple has partnered with Chinese technology firms. Alibaba will provide the underlying AI models, specifically Qwen and Tongyi Wanxiang, for text and image generation. Baidu will support search functions and certain Siri-related capabilities. The China-specific version will include government-mandated guardrails and filters to ensure content compliance.
Due to these regulatory requirements, the initial launch will be a modified experience. It will notably exclude the revamped Siri AI assistant, Image Playground, and Genmoji. The approved models and features will be available on several devices, including the upcoming iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro, and older compatible models.
