Apple to launch first water‑resistant iPad mini with OLED display in October

Apple is preparing to release the next iPad mini, which would become the company’s first tablet with an official water‑resistance rating. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman says the redesign will provide protection comparable to the iPhone, allowing casual use near pools, in bathrooms or other wet environments. The design will rely on a vibration‑based speaker system that eliminates traditional speaker openings, turning flat chassis surfaces into a sound‑emitting diaphragm and reducing water‑ingress points.

The new mini is also expected to adopt an 8.4‑inch OLED panel, likely an LTPS‑based screen running at 60 Hz without ProMotion. Samsung Display has reportedly started mass‑producing these panels, confirming the OLED upgrade. In parallel, Apple plans a processor leap, with leaked code suggesting either the A19 Pro chip or the yet‑unreleased A20 Pro will power the device. Pricing is expected to rise above the current $599 baseline, potentially approaching $700. Launch is slated for October 2026, roughly a month after Apple’s anticipated iPhone 18 rollout.
