Apple to pay Google $1 billion yearly for Gemini AI collaboration

Apple announced a multi‑year agreement to use Google’s Gemini large‑language models to train its own Apple Foundation Models, paying Google about $1 billion each year. The partnership will employ Gemini 3 as a training aid, but the Gemini model will not be directly integrated into iOS. Apple emphasized that its Siri system remains separate and that no Google Assistant data is used; processing will occur on‑device or via a private cloud infrastructure to protect user privacy.

Separately, Google rolled out new Gemini‑powered features in Google Docs. The AI can read and analyse comments, summarise feedback, suggest replies, and even edit text based on reviewer input. Users can invoke Gemini through a side panel or input field, and the functionality is available to Google Workspace customers on Business and Enterprise plans, as well as subscribers to Google AI Pro and Ultra.
