Apple releases iOS 27.0.1 to fix Face ID bugs and security flaws

Apple has released its first major corrective updates for the iOS 27 generation, including iOS 27.0.1, iPadOS 27.0.1, macOS 27.0.1, watchOS 27.0.1, and visionOS 27.0.1. These updates primarily focus on resolving critical bugs and security vulnerabilities discovered following the recent major software launch.

A significant portion of the update addresses a security flaw in the CoreGraphics framework (CVE-2026-86950). Apple confirmed this vulnerability was exploited in highly sophisticated, targeted attacks against specific individuals using older iOS versions. The flaw could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code by processing a maliciously crafted file.

To protect users who have not yet upgraded to iOS 27, Apple also released security patches for the previous cycle, including iOS 26.7.1, iPadOS 26.7.1, and macOS Tahoe 26.7.1.

For iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max users, iOS 27.0.1 specifically resolves an issue where devices would unexpectedly restart following a failed Face ID authentication attempt. Additionally, the update fixes a color artifact issue appearing in 2x zoom photos taken at f/1.48 under certain lighting conditions and resolves a bug where the touchscreen would become unresponsive when opening the Notification Center and Control Center simultaneously.
