Apple prepares smart home expansion and retail redesign

Apple is reportedly preparing for a major expansion into the smart home market this fall. According to reports from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the company is reorganizing the 'Avenues' display sections in its retail stores to make room for a new generation of home devices.

Central to this strategy is the rumored 'HomePad,' a smart home hub featuring a 7-inch square display. The device is expected to run a new operating system designed for home control, utilizing Siri AI and customizable widgets. It may be released in two versions: one with a built-in speaker and another with magnets for wall mounting.

In addition to the HomePad, Apple is expected to refresh its existing home lineup with an upgraded Apple TV 4K, potentially featuring an A17 Pro chip, and a new HomePod mini equipped with an S9 series chip to support enhanced AI capabilities.

To fund these hardware and AI initiatives, Apple is reportedly restructuring its workforce. This includes cutting approximately 200 positions within the Vision Pro and Siri/software teams to reallocate engineering resources toward artificial intelligence and next-generation hardware development.
