Apple confirms iPhone 18 Pro Max cellular issue on AT&T network

Apple has confirmed a cellular connectivity issue affecting a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max users on the AT&T network in the United States. Affected devices may experience a total loss of cellular service, displaying an SOS signal in the status bar and preventing users from making calls, sending texts, or accessing mobile data. AT&T has warned that this issue could potentially prevent users from making emergency 911 calls.

To prevent further occurrences, Apple has released iOS 27.0.1 and a carrier settings update. However, Apple stated that these software updates are intended to be preventative and cannot restore service to devices that have already lost connectivity. For those already affected, Apple is requiring a full hardware replacement.

Technical analysis suggests the issue may be linked to the specific hardware configuration of the US model (A3473), which utilizes a Qualcomm Snapdragon X80 modem rather than Apple’s in-house C2 modem used in other regions. Additionally, some users have reported cosmetic issues, specifically discoloration around the rear camera lenses on Burgundy and Black iPhone 18 Pro models.
