Apple to replace iPhone 18 Pro Max units facing AT&T service loss

Apple has confirmed that a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max users on the AT&T network are experiencing total loss of cellular service, including calls, texts, and data. Affected devices display an “SOS” status in the signal bar and, in some cases, are unable to reach emergency 911 services.

While Apple has released software updates, such as iOS 27.0.1 and a specific carrier bundle for iOS 27.2 beta users, these updates are intended only to prevent the issue from spreading to new devices. Users whose hardware has already lost service will require a full device replacement, which Apple has stated will be provided free of charge.

The issue appears limited to the iPhone 18 Pro Max model used in the United States, which utilizes a Qualcomm Snapdragon X80 modem. Other iPhone models and users on different carriers, such as T-Mobile and Verizon, have not reported similar problems. The exact cause of the failure remains unconfirmed, though the necessity of hardware replacement suggests a potential component issue.
