Apple TV announces horror series ‘Ascension’ starring Caitríona Balfe

Apple TV has announced the pickup of ‘Ascension’, a new one-hour psychological horror thriller series from Academy Award winner Alfonso Cuarón. The series stars Caitríona Balfe, who will also serve as an executive producer.

Inspired by Adam Nevill’s novel ‘Last Days’, the story follows Rose, a documentary filmmaker and mother who investigates a mysterious 20th-century cult known as the Church of Ascension. As she delves into the group, she discovers insidious truths beneath its teachings.

The series will be co-showrun by Natalie Erika James and Christian White, with James also serving as the lead director. The writing team includes James, White, Alfonso Cuarón, and Carlos Cuarón. The project is produced by Apple Studios and Anonymous Content, with Esperanto Filmoj also serving as an executive producer.
