Apple TV+ acquires ‘Small Prophets’ and raises subscription prices

Apple TV+ is expanding its content library and adjusting its service pricing. The streaming platform has acquired the global rights to ‘Small Prophets’, a highly acclaimed six-part British comedy created, written, and directed by Mackenzie Crook. The series, which debuted on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer, is scheduled for a worldwide release on Apple TV+ on October 7, 2026, though UK subscribers will not see it on the service until 2027.

This acquisition marks a departure from Apple’s traditional strategy of developing original content from scratch. The comedy, which holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and won the International Panorama award at Series Mania, follows the story of Michael Sleep as he uses magical recipes to search for his missing partner.

In addition to content acquisitions, Apple TV+ is raising its monthly subscription price by $1.99, bringing the cost to $14.99 per month. This move follows a period of significant critical success for the platform, driven by award-nominated series such as ‘Pluribus’, ‘Severance’, and ‘Slow Horses’. The service continues to strengthen its position in the science fiction genre with upcoming and returning titles like ‘Dark Matter’ and ‘Silo’.
