Apple TV’s original series “Widow’s Bay,” starring Matthew Rhys as Mayor Tom Loftis on a fictional New England island, premiered on April 29 and quickly became a word‑of‑mouth hit. The show blends horror and character‑driven comedy, earning praise from critics such as Guillermo Del Toro, Ben Stiller and The New York Times, which called it the best new show of the year. Following the season‑one finale, Apple TV announced a renewal for a second season.

The series’ sound design also drew attention: supervising sound editor Matt Yocum described a deep, haunting “voice of the island” used in a climactic episode to convey the supernatural force believed by locals, emphasizing audio over visual effects.
