Apple TV seeks US broadcasting rights for golf’s Open Championship
Apple TV is reportedly in preliminary discussions with The R&A to bid for the United States broadcasting rights to golf’s Open Championship. The current deal held by NBC and Versant (which operates the Golf Channel) is set to expire in 2028.
The formal bidding process is expected to begin in early 2027. Apple is not the only streaming giant interested; Netflix and Amazon are also anticipated to challenge traditional broadcasters for the rights to the prestigious tournament.
A spokesperson for The R&A noted that while they maintain an excellent partnership with NBC and Versant, they intend to monitor the evolving audiovisual landscape as the next American media cycle approaches.
