Apple TV+ series 'Widow’s Bay' debuts, filmed in Massachusetts
Apple TV+ will premiere the horror‑comedy series Widow’s Bay on 29 April 2026, with the episodes also available on Prime Video. Created by Katie Dippold and directed by Hiro Murai, Sam Donovan, Andrew DeYoung and Ti West, the show stars Matthew Rhys as mayor Tom Loftis, Kate O’Flynn as assistant Patricia Moyer and Stephen Root as folklore scholar Wyck Crawford. Set on a fictional New England island, the series blends supernatural folklore with comedy, referencing Stephen King’s atmospheric horror and John Carpenter’s classic monster motifs.
The production was shot across several Massachusetts locations, including Worcester, Rockport and Gloucester. Showrunner Dippold deliberately kept the island’s exact geography vague to emphasize the New England vibe. Cast members highlighted the region’s historic folklore and the “gorgeous” coastal scenery that enriched the series.
Widow’s Bay is promoted as one of the year’s most striking television surprises, aiming to combine horror tradition with fresh comedic storytelling while showcasing Massachusetts as a filming hub.
