Apple TV+ 'Sugar' Season 2 Shifts Toward Comedy and Greater Sci‑Fi

Apple TV+ is launching the second season of its neo‑noir thriller 'Sugar' on June 19, 2026. Showrunner Sam Catlin says the new season will lean more into comedy while expanding the series’ science‑fiction elements, building on the revelation that protagonist John Sugar, played by Colin Farrell, is an alien. Catlin emphasizes that the tonal shift will retain the show’s emotional grounding.

Farrell concurs, noting that his character will appear “a little lost at sea,” allowing for both humor and deeper personal relationships to emerge. The season adds new recurring roles, including Laura Donnelly as Charlotte Fischer, and features returning cast members Jin Ha, Raymond Lee, Tony Dalton, Sasha Calle and guest Shea Whigham.

Farrell also revealed a long‑term vision for the series, hoping it could run for up to five seasons. The first season was praised for its cinematography and earned strong ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, while early reviews have given the upcoming season a perfect score.
