Apple TV's 'Sugar' Season 2 Episode 4 Revives Witness Ji Moon in Mojave Standoff
Episode 4 of Apple TV’s crime drama ‘Sugar’, titled “Off‑15”, brings detective John Sugar into a deadly confrontation with lieutenant Ray Vega in the Mojave Desert. The plot centres on Ji Moon, the sole witness to Vega’s murder of fellow gang member Chuy during a fentanyl “Fire Sale” deal. Vega pursues Ji to silence him, planting a GPS tracker on Ji’s car and arranging a drug exchange at a shopping mall.
Sugar tracks Ji to a remote desert property, where he stages a fake overdose using naloxone to make Ji appear dead. Vega’s men seize the money, phone and tracker, believing the witness eliminated, but Sugar revives Ji within the three‑minute reversal window. The ruse leaves Ji officially “dead” while alive, shifting the power balance between Sugar and Vega and exposing Vega’s involvement in the Fire Sale operation.
The episode also reveals internal corruption within the Sheriff’s Department, with unidentified officials ordering Vega to leave Sugar alone, and flashbacks that link Vega’s earlier killing of Chuy to his current hunt for Ji. The dramatic fake death and rescue set up future tensions in the season.
