Apple unveils AI‑powered photo editing tools in iOS 27

Apple announced at its WWDC 2026 conference that the upcoming iOS 27 operating system will add three AI‑driven tools to the native Photos app for iPhone, Mac and Vision Pro. The upgraded Clean Up feature can remove unwanted objects from complex scenes more accurately. The new Extend tool lets users generate additional background or change aspect ratios by filling in missing image areas. Reframe (spatial reframing) lets users shift the virtual camera angle of an existing photo, with Apple Intelligence completing the missing parts via private‑cloud compute while keeping user data protected. All three tools combine on‑device processing with cloud models and are slated for release later in the year as part of iOS 27 updates. Availability in the European Union remains uncertain pending regulatory approval.
