Apple updates Apple Watch apps to fix watchOS 27 compatibility
Apple is taking the unusual step of manually updating Apple Watch applications to resolve compatibility issues discovered in watchOS 27 beta versions. The problem stems from a technical incompatibility within the arm64 component of certain application binaries, which prevents them from launching on the new operating system.
Rather than waiting for individual developers to recompile and republish their apps, Apple is reprocessing and repackaging the affected applications itself. These updated versions are being automatically published to the App Store. The updates do not include new features or interface changes; they are purely technical fixes to ensure functionality.
Apple has informed developers that this process is expected to be completed by August 31, ahead of the public release of watchOS 27 and iOS 27 scheduled for mid-September. Users will see a note in the App Store stating that the app was updated by Apple for watchOS 27 compatibility.
