Apple warns iPhone 18 Pro users about Face ID interference

Apple has issued guidance for iPhone 18 Pro users regarding potential Face ID malfunctions caused by the device's new under-display TrueDepth camera system. Because the infrared camera is now positioned beneath the display in the top left corner, certain accessories and physical obstructions can interfere with facial recognition.

Apple advises users to remove privacy screen protectors, as these can reduce infrared transparency. Other factors that may impede Face ID include heavy makeup, facial masks, beauty face packs, or strong backlight from sunlight. Users are also encouraged to ensure that cases or dirt are not covering the top left corner of the device.

To maintain performance, the iPhone 18 Pro utilizes additional image data to supplement traditional depth and infrared imaging. Some accessory manufacturers, such as NIMASO and TRINITY, have temporarily suspended sales of certain screen protectors due to concerns that they may prevent Face ID from functioning correctly on this specific model.
