Apple Watch slated for major 2027 redesign with magnetic strap and larger battery

Apple is reportedly preparing a substantial redesign of its Apple Watch line for 2027, potentially named Series 13. Leaked information suggests the company will replace the long‑standing slide‑in band slot with a new magnetic‑attachment system, a change that could render existing bands incompatible.

Alongside the new band mechanism, the next‑generation watch is expected to feature a slimmer case, a higher‑capacity battery for longer endurance, and advanced display technology such as an HMO‑OLED panel that could improve energy efficiency. Health‑monitoring hardware may also be expanded, with rumors of up to eight sensors arranged in a circular array on the back of the device, some of which could be integrated into the band itself.

The redesign follows earlier reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman about an “Apple Watch X” concept and aligns with Apple’s typical three‑year design cycle. The intermediate Apple Watch Series 12, scheduled for 2026, is said to retain the current design without major exterior changes.
