Apple's MacBook Neo sells 1.1 million units in first three weeks
Apple has introduced the MacBook Neo, its first mid‑range laptop, using the A18 Pro chip originally designed for the iPhone 16 Pro. Launched in early March, the Neo was priced at €699 for the 256 GB model and €799 for the 512 GB version in Italy. According to IDC data, it sold 1.1 million units in its first three weeks, outpacing the latest MacBook Air and Pro models. The device ships with 8 GB of RAM, a 16‑hour battery life, a mechanical trackpad, and a base model that lacks Touch ID.
AMD published a comparison claiming the Neo lagged behind PCs built around the Ryzen 5 220 processor, but independent benchmarks show the A18 Pro is roughly 45 % faster on a single core and 10‑15 % ahead on multi‑core workloads. AMD’s figures of 57 % performance gain are based on selective tests and omit discussion of the Neo’s Wi‑Fi 6E, NPU and price advantage. The review noted the Neo is best suited for everyday tasks such as email, web browsing and office work rather than high‑performance gaming or content creation.
