Apprenticeship vacancies reported in Jena and Mönchengladbach

Multiple German cities report significant numbers of vacant apprenticeship positions following the start of the new training year.

In Jena, the Food, Beverages and Catering Union (NGG) Thüringen reports that 156 apprenticeship spots remain unfilled, including five positions in the hospitality sector. NGG Managing Director Jens Löbel noted that many companies offer flexibility, allowing starts in September or October, and advised youth to seek formal contracts rather than temporary jobs to build a professional foundation.

In Mönchengladbach, the Employment Agency has registered 566 open apprenticeship positions. According to NGG Krefeld-Neuss, these include 21 roles in hotels and restaurants, 38 in the food industry, and 38 in bakeries. Ina Korte-Grimberg of the NGG advised applicants to prioritize companies paying collective bargaining wages and those with a Youth and Apprentice Representative (JAV) to ensure training standards are met.
