Aprender Conectado expands school internet program to 5,734 new schools
The Entidade Administradora da Conectividade de Escolas (Eace) has launched two Requests for Proposal (RFPs) for Phase 6 of the Aprender Conectado program. This additional phase aims to provide internet connectivity and off-grid photovoltaic solar energy systems to 5,734 public schools located across 2,246 municipalities.
This expansion increases the program's total reach from an original goal of 40,000 schools to nearly 46,000, representing a 15% increase in coverage. The budget for this new phase, approved by the Grupo de Acompanhamento do Custeio a Projetos de Conectividade de Escolas (Gape), is R$ 453.5 million. The list of participating schools was determined by the Ministry of Education.
The technical scope of the connectivity RFP includes a 24-month integrated contract for both external and internal networks. Broadband solutions will prioritize fiber optics, though radio, hybrid arrangements, or Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) may be used based on technical feasibility. The internal network must include a complete Wi-Fi solution for all pedagogical and administrative areas.
